Grofian Psychedelic Therapy

GROFIAN PSYCHEDELIC THERAPY

Grof introduces the idea of "transpersonal psychology," which seeks to integrate spirituality and the transcendental dimension into psychological practice. He advocates recognizing the importance of spiritual and mystical experiences in human development and how these can have a profound impact on mental and emotional health.

In this module, we will explore the principles of "set" and "setting" in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy in a safe and effective manner, as well as review Grof's expanded mapping of the psyche: the biographical, perinatal and transpersonal layers of the unconscious that emerge in experiential sessions.

Understanding the full range of possible experiences that arise in psychedelic and breathwork sessions is essential for informed preparation, safe supervision and proper integration. Grof conducted over 4,000 individual high-dose sessions and came to perceive that psychedelics, when used responsibly, play the same role in psychology and psychotherapy as the microscope in biology and the telescope in astronomy. He discovered intrinsic healing mechanisms in the human psyche that can lead to therapeutic results "unimaginable" in contemporary psychiatry. We will present Grof® Breathwork, a powerful non-pharmacological technique for entering holotropic states that was developed by Stan and Christina Grof.
